Severe tooth pain went away, followed by heavy bleeding in one gum pocket. Should I wait until my Aug 1st appointment?
I’m looking for some advice on whether I need to push for an earlier appointment or if I’m okay waiting for my scheduled cleaning on August 1st.
For the past few days, I’ve had intense, constant pain in what felt like 3 teeth (two on top, one on the bottom). The pain was bad enough that I had to take ibuprofen just to get to sleep. As of yesterday, the intense "throbbing" pain stopped, but I noticed one specific area of my gums was extremely sensitive. When I flossed that spot, there was a significant amount of blood, though it stopped bleeding immediately afterward.
once the bleeding stopped, the sensitivity in that area also went away.
I do have a history of periodontitis and I have a cleaning already booked for August 1st. My main concern is: Is it safe to wait until then, or does the fact that I was in enough pain to need ibuprofen suggest I need a diagnostic exam/emergency checkup immediately? I'm worried about potentially having an abscess or an active infection that shouldn't be left until the 1st.
Money is currently very tight for me, so I really want to avoid the cost of an emergency appointment if this isn’t a true emergency. However, I don't want to ignore something serious that could end up costing much more later if it gets worse. Any advice on whether I can safely wait or if this sounds like something that requires immediate attention?
