Alcohol, Activity & Creativity

I imagine this has been discussed before. But I wanted to hear some other's stories for comparison.

When I was a child I was hugely productive and creative. Constantly writing, making and drawing, mostly by myself. Fast forward I fell out of the habit of being creative, but I did become a fitness and health freak (straight edge). Unfortunately there was a lot of alchol around me in early adulthood and I fell out of being so active, and began partying a lot. Later traumatic experiences, resulted in severe binge episodes, some of long duration, some shorter. And since then I've spent most of my life, simply drinking too much.

I still haven't successfully reconnected to my creativity. Like most of us, I'm well aware of the trope of the drunk artist. And I just wondered, has becoming creative and / or very active, helped anyone here to abstain from drinking? Has anyone found their addiction linked to being creatively or actively blocked (perhaps from depression and/or trauma)? Have you become more creative as a byproduct of quitting?

Just wanted to see what others feel may be the relationship between these things for them, as I suspect there is something meaningful here for me, that I haven't quite managed to work out.
