Does anyone experience "emotional repetition" of sorts?
I have no idea how else to describe this phenomenon. Sometimes, I have the distinct feeling that a memory did not happen to me, and the information this memory contains is news to me. Because the information is new, I become emotional about it, even though the "I" in the memory clearly went through the same or different emotions.
A specific example to illustrate: some time ago (possibly yesterday?) I apparently found out that an ex-friend with whom I have unfinished business is moving away (he lived literally next door). I do not remember how I felt about it in the memory, however, I have the distinct impression that "I" went through a few thoughts and perhaps emotions about it and moved on. Possibly, I may have complained about it to a friend. Today, I woke up, and after a few hours, this memory suddenly came to me like a lightning bolt, though it felt like I was receiving the information in it for the first time. It felt like someone just told me that this ex-amour was moving away without as much as telling me even though once in a while he pesters me with questions; asking how I am doing and if life is treating me well. I got really angry and complained to a friend about it. I have the feeling that "I" from the memory may have complained to the same friend, though I am unsure. If that "me" did, the friend did not mention it.
In related news, today has not been a good day for me.
