Will I get discarded for re-applying to firms

Title basically. Applications for trainee positions are going to start opening up again over the summer and autumn, and I am worried that I will get penalised for applying again. Managed 3 first-round interviews, but that's it this year. I do have an actual postgraduate degree classification now, instead of just an expected grade, and have a little more experience (open days, etc.). If they do penalise it, what do I do? There aren't that many firms, and I've applied to most already.
