IUI Timing Frustrations

Hello! My husband (34 y/o) and I (32 y/o) have been ttc for 19 months and have decided to try a medicated IUI. Would love some thoughts on the best path forward for our current situation.

The fertility clinic started me on progesterone and I have a baseline appointment next week in which I’ll begin clomid. The 10mg of progesterone has been awful, feeling sluggish and highly emotional (something I’ve never experienced before). The problem is I’ll be out of town (3 days) for a bachelorette at the end of the month. I told the clinic this and they said that it’s possible I might ovulate while am away and they wouldn’t be able to do the procedure.

I’m wracking my brain because the idea of being on all these medications this month, only for there to be a chance I won’t even get to go through with the IUI, is driving me a bit nuts.

The overall timeline is a bit complicated too. My husband will be going through a promotion cycle at work from August 2027 through December 2027. This is a promotion he’s been working his entire career for. He expressed he would strongly not like to have a baby between those dates if we can control it. Otherwise he would have to skip out on his paternity leave (if it happens naturally during that time, we’re totally happy with that).

tldr; this month is the only month we would try for a baby this year before hitting pause until Feb/Mar 2027 to start trying again.

Also for more context, my friend’s bachelorette and wedding is in August. She’s the last one in my close friend group to get married. I was already contemplating delaying treatment so I can enjoy celebrations with her, but my husband really wanted to give this a shot. I felt guilty about delaying this further, so I just started the cycle (even though deep down I think I might have preferred to delay). Either way, I’ve already started the cycle, so I’m deciding to just ride it out. But part of me also still wonders if I should just stop now.

Any thoughts or kind words would be appreciated, thanks!
