19M feeling massively behind in life because of strict parents – this is my first job and I have almost no life experience

General Advice

Hey everyone,
I’m 19 and I feel like I’m way behind everyone else my age. I just started my electrical apprenticeship. it’s my first real job. My parents never let me work before, and they barely allowed me to go out unless there was a “good reason.”
I live in a quiet area with almost no people my age around. I’m not an outgoing person at all, so I’ve basically spent most of my life at home. I only have 3 friends total, and the only time I’m allowed to go out is on Sundays to visit one friend who lives 30 minutes away.
Because of all this, I feel so socially awkward. I don’t know how to dress properly, how to talk to people, how to act in different situations, or even basic stuff like how to live independently. When I look at other 19-year-olds, they seem way more confident, independent, and experienced. I feel like I’m lacking so much knowledge about the world.
I really want to catch up and at least feel equal to people my age. I want more life experience, better social skills, and some confidence… but I have no idea where to start.
Has anyone else been in a similar situation? How did you start building your life after strict parents? Any advice would mean a lot.
Thanks.
