Ask people who's winning the AI race, and you'll get OpenAI, Google, or Anthropic depending on who you ask. I think all three answers are defensible, which is kind of the interesting part.

They're each winning on a different metric:

* **Reach** — ChatGPT is still the most-used product by a wide margin
* **Infrastructure** — Google owns its full stack (chips, data centres) top to bottom, while OpenAI leases massive compute through partners like Microsoft and Amazon
* **Coding/agentic capability** — this one gets underrated. Agentic AI runs on coding ability, and developer surveys have been showing Claude rated highest for the hardest, most complex coding tasks specifically

What I find genuinely interesting: Google often scores highest on paper when you average everything together, but scores near the bottom on *momentum* — while OpenAI and Anthropic are seen as accelerating faster right now. First place on the scoreboard isn't the same as winning the game currently being played.

Curious what this sub thinks — is there an actual "winner" to call yet, or is picking one premature given how fast the coding/agentic layer specifically is moving? I put together a longer breakdown on this if anyone wants it, happy to share in comments if that's within the rules here.
