I don't need a reply from you. I just needed to say it… Did anyone else mistake emotional abuse for love?
Hi!
It’s been a year, and I’m still carrying the trauma of what you did. That should tell you everything.
I’m not writing this to rekindle anything or start a conversation. I’m writing because I need to say clearly and finally the truth you always avoided. The truth you buried. The truth that I had to survive on my own.
You chased me for years, wore me down with persistence and when I finally let you in when I finally chose you… you didn’t value it. You used it.
From the very first week, when I saw the dating app on your phone, the lies started. You said it was your friend’s. I believed you because I trusted you. That was the first of many times you looked me in the eye and lied.
Then your brother came back, and everything changed. You started ignoring me, disappearing, replying hours later. I never once had a problem with you spending time with him the problem was how you used him as an excuse to detach from me completely, to shut me out without explanation.
And then there was your ex bestf who you liked before me… The girl who needed “closure.” I supported you in giving her that. I stayed awake that night like you asked. You gave her 15 minutes, came back, said nothing, and just told me goodnight. I lay awake with spiraling thoughts, waiting for comfort you never gave. The next morning, when I tried to talk you told me I was overthinking. Dramatic. Insecure. But you were the one still talking to her behind my back. You re added her on Snapchat. You followed her again. You sent her snaps while lying to my face. I only found out because of your phone.
You didn’t just lie you gaslit me. Every time I brought up something real, you turned it into an attack. You made me the villain, even when I was only asking for honesty and respect.
And when someone in my life crossed a line I told you. I kept distance. I handled it. But you used that one moment against me for two years. You accused me of cheating. You said I ruined your life. You used my own phone to message him, pretending to be me telling him my house was empty. You tried to make it look like I was cheating, like I was unfaithful, like I was someone I never was.
You humiliated me. In public. In private. You threw the wallet I gifted you at me in a restaurant because I followed an old friend back on instagram. You locked yourself in a bathroom with my phone. You threatened to throw it. You bled in front of me on purpose knowing I have a phobia of blood just to hurt me. You fell at my feet in the middle of the road, not out of love, but to manipulate and embarrass me.
You called me a “prostitute” on our anniversary. You teased me, degraded me, and even put chewing gum in my hair on my birthday knowing how much it meant to me. I had to cut it because of you… you also made me cry on my birthday!
You ruined friendships using my phone to attack the people who cared about me. You isolated me. You made me doubt myself. You made me feel like I was the problem.
And when I was in the hospital sick and in pain, you picked a fight over a message I’d already told you about. You made my pain about you
You weren’t there for me. Not emotionally. Not mentally. Not physically. I stood by you in your worst moments skipping exams, showing up for you, putting your comfort above mine and you couldn’t even show me basic human decency in return.
You were jealous of my success. Insecure about my friendships. Dismissive of my dreams. You wanted me small. And when I started to shine, you felt threatened instead of proud.
And then the final blow
You told me “I love you” one afternoon and just six hours later, you said you didn’t know if you wanted to stay.
No explanation. No warning. Just a cold, sudden exit.
Do you have any idea how that shattered me? How cruel and immature it was to do that to someone who gave you everything?
Even in my most vulnerable moments like when I was sick, in the hospital you made it about you. You picked fights instead of offering comfort. You were never there for me, not really.
I was loyal. I stood by you. I skipped exams, made sacrifices, prioritized you over everything. And you couldn’t even be kind in return. You resented my success. You were insecure about my friends. You wanted me small so you could feel big.
You never apologized not really. You never took responsibility. You acted like the victim while being the cause of so much pain.
So let me say this clearly
You caused me trauma. And even a year later, I am still healing from the damage you did.
But I’m not writing this from a place of bitterness I’m writing from a place of truth. I want you to sit with the reality of what you did, because I’ve had to sit with the consequences alone.
I hope you’ve changed. I hope you’ve learned. I hope you’re no longer the person who breaks people and walks away like it meant nothing.
Take care.
God bless you.
