What are your thoughts on this idea?

I read an essay today that challenged the way I think about independence.

It suggested that instead of waiting for replies, validation, or reassurance, we should invest that time and energy in building ourselves: reading, learning, creating, and developing hobbies that make our lives meaningful on their own.

The idea that stayed with me most was that we're already whole. The people who come into our lives should add to it, not complete it.

I liked that perspective because it shifts the focus from seeking attention to becoming someone who genuinely enjoys their own life.

Do you agree with this? Or do you think there's a point where this mindset can become emotional avoidance?
