Standard Visitor Visa Approved - joint application, unmarried couple, mid-20s, Indian nationals

India

Hey everyone,

I wanted to give back to this amazing community by sharing our visa success story. My fiancée (F, 26) and I (M, 26) recently applied for a 6-month UK Standard Visitor Visa under the Standard service option from VFS Kolkata, India, and both of our applications were approved!

Given our distinct professional backgrounds - one of us is a self-employed consultant (registered as a proprietorship) and the other is a Director with multiple family business partnerships- our financial paper trail was quite complex. We spent weeks ensuring our logical scaffolding was airtight.

First visit to the UK for both of us.

Here is the exact breakdown of our profiles, timeline, and documentation strategy to help anyone navigating a similar path.

Profile 1: Self Employed Consultant (Fiancée)
Status: Sole Proprietor operating under a Trade License, PTAX, GST and LUT.

Income Profile: Paid by foreign clients in foreign currency via international bank transfers. Since the income is from foreign entities, it isn't captured under the Indian TDS system (no Form 26AS).

Trip Purpose: Split trip. Part 1 (Day 1-4) is fully sponsored to attend a conference. Part 2 (Day 5 - 14) is a self-funded leisure trip with me.

Document Checklist Provided:

Business Proof: GST Registration Certificate, GST Letter of Undertaking (LUT) for exporting services without paying integrated tax, and a Municipal Trade License.
Contracts & Revenue: Formal consultancy agreements and recent client invoices.

Financials & Tax: Filed ITR-3 form for FY 2025-26, showing gross professional receipts of INR 32L. Taxable income was 12.72L after the CA-certified Profit and Loss Statement (also attached), reconciling gross receipts to net taxable income. However, did not declare the taxable income as the annual income, decided to go for the gross receipts as it was higher and also, a proprietorship is basically the same legal entity as the person who owns the business.

Bank Statements: 6 months of bank statements highlighting the monthly foreign credits matching the invoices.

Sponsorship Evidence: A formal invitation letter from the conference host, certifying what expenses they shall cover from Day 1 to 4. (Sponsorship amount mentioned should match the form).

Travel History Evidence: Both of us had extensive travel histories. I have been to France, Malta and Greece in 2018, 2019 under separate Schengen Visas, and recently in 2025-26 to Japan, Singapore (2), UAE (3), Thailand (3), Vietnam, Oman, Philippines, Malaysia (2). She travelled to New Zealand three years ago, with more recent visits to Japan, Singapore, Thailand, UAE, etc (same as me in 2025-26). We attached all the past visa stamps and for countries like Singapore which dont stamp, the e-visa / entry approval copies.

Profile 2: Employed as Director (Me)
Status: Director of an incorporated company (annual turnover ~ ₹30 Cr) and partner in other family-owned firms.

Income Profile: Monthly director's remuneration (salary) subject to Section 192 TDS, plus partner profit shares/remuneration subject to Section 194T TDS under Income Tax Act 1961.

Trip Purpose: Joining my fiancée in London on Day 5 to start our self-funded holiday through the UK from Day 5 to 14.

Document Checklist Provided:

Corporate Standing: Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) master data records and list of directors. Audited financial statements for all three business entities.

Remuneration Evidence: Formal letters from the company and partnership firms confirming my role, ongoing participation, and exact remuneration breakdown.

Tax Compliance: Form 26AS showing active TDS deductions matching my stated income to demonstrate my claimed income of 30L in the recently ended FY 2025-26 (ITR not filed yet). Attached ITR-3 acknowledgement for the preceding three fiscal years.

Liquidity: 6 months of both bank statements showing consistent salary credits.

Linking the Applications & Proving Ties to Return
As we are travelling together but have separate professional trajectories, establishing strong ties to India and a unified narrative was critical.

Marriage: We are getting married later this year in India. We enclosed formal wedding venue/vendor receipts and bridal jewellery invoices. This proved a massive cultural and personal incentive to return promptly.

Shared Itinerary & Budget Matrix: We enclosed a day-by-day indicative travel itinerary showing matching train journeys and pre-booked hotels across our proposed stay dates in the UK. UKVI advice asks not to book hotels, but we booked refundable ones anyway, to support our proposed itinerary. We also included a clear budget matrix outlining exactly how the leisure segment costs were split between us.

Individual Anchors:
I submitted a registered property deed under my name.
She demonstrated that her remote contracts contractually require her to continue delivery from India.

Financial Explanations: We both submitted a highly detailed Financial Circumstances Letter. For example, she explicitly explained a one-off credit of INR 5L as a wedding gift from the family to show it wasn't unexplained business revenue or "funds parking". I detailed my monthly recurring premium outflows to explain why one bank account maintained a modest balance while my primary liquid savings sat in another.

Bank Balances: Me - Around 10L INR, and my fiancée had about 8L INR.

Both of us attached our CAMS + KFintech Mutual Fund Portfolio (I had about 4L in MF investments, and she has about 20L and another 5L in direct stocks, for which I attached the Groww statement). I also added my PPF statement, which had another 3L.

Happy to answer any questions you might have. Good luck to everyone applying!
