I believe LeBron James will sign with the Celtics for the 2026/2027 Season
While the Celtics haven't been out there as a high likelihood destination for LeBron, I believe after a few recent pieces of information and circumstances, they very much are still being weighed as an option.
When the whiteboard came out with Rich Paul and Max Kellerman's podcast, I was surprised as anyone to see "Brad and Tatum" listed on there as a tie in to the Celtics. Rich Paul has consistently said he doesn't know where LeBron is going, and he's letting him make his decision, but I listened to the episode of their podcast on Monday of this week, where Max Kellerman basically said there's teams on the list that he just can't see LeBron going to, naming the Celtics as one of them.
Rich then pretty much called him out saying why wouldn't he go to the Celtics, and Max had a lot of non-substantive reasoning (the narrative, the huge rivalry, they won a championship recently, etc). Rich pretty much unilaterally dismissed these things as "Media driven storylines" rather than quantifiable things players rely on when making there decision, and that he feels LeBron has earned a right to do whatever he wants, wherever will make him happy. This wasn't really debated for any other team, and the extreme opposition Rich took to Max's statement made me wonder.
After this episode, reports came out from Chams that LeBron had narrowed his search to 6 teams (Cavs, Warriors, Miami, Minnesota, Denver, 76ers). On Wednesdays episode, Max Kellerman brought up this number, and Rich corrected him, saying that the list is actually 7, not 6 as reported previously. Again, there are obviously teams on this list that are more likely than others or at least perceived that way. But why would he feel the need to correct the number, or disagree so flat out about whether LeBron could sign with the Celtics?
Another piece with the trade of Brown - I actually think that makes the 76ers a less likely destination, and makes the Celtics more appealing following Brown's comments about Bronny in 2024. While he apologized and clarified, you have to think someone saying negative things about his son could detract from his likelihood of signing to the same team as that player, and that player then leaving making that team a more appealing destination.
LeBron is a partial owner of the Fenway Sports Group, has I believe a lot of respect for the Celtics as a marquee franchise, and could easily be a key piece to the Celtics being right at the top of the East again this year. I may be delusional, but I do think there's a chance here.
