Need Career Advice: Should I Focus on DSA or DevOps Skills to Reach a 30 LPA Product Company Role?
Hi everyone,
I need some genuine career advice from experienced engineers.
I'm currently looking for a new job after being laid off from my previous company. My long-term goal is to reach a 30 LPA DevOps/Platform Engineer role in a product-based company (preferably Chennai, otherwise Bangalore or Hyderabad) within the next year.
Here's my background:
- B.E. Computer Science (2023)
- Overall IT Experience: ~1 year 2 months
- Cloud & DevOps: 8 months
- Technical Support: 6 months
Current skills:
- AWS
- Terraform
- Kubernetes (EKS)
- Docker
- Azure DevOps
- Git
- Helm
- ArgoCD
- ECS
- Linux (currently strengthening)
- Bash (currently strengthening)
Areas I'm working on:
- Advanced Linux
- Bash scripting
- Terraform coding
- GitHub Actions
- Python for DevOps
- Ansible
My immediate goal is to get a Cloud/DevOps job within the next month. After that, I want to spend the next year preparing for high-paying product companies.
My confusion is:
- How important is DSA (LeetCode) for DevOps/SRE/Platform Engineer roles in product companies?
- Should I spend significant time solving LeetCode problems, or should I invest that time in Python, Linux, Kubernetes, Terraform, GitHub Actions, and system design?
- If you were in my position, what roadmap would you follow over the next 12 months to maximize the chances of reaching a 30 LPA DevOps/SRE role?
I'm looking for honest advice from people who have made a similar transition or currently work in product companies.
Thank you!
