Constructed world is a trap for the protagonist?
I'm looking for something (ideally horror or dark fantasy) where someone magically creates a space/world and someone else is trapped there and has to fight to get out. The world could be initially appealing, or scary/negative from the beginning -- I'm mostly interested in a character fighting against a constructed reality and the person who created it.
Coraline fits the bill in multiple ways, but I'm looking for something aimed at adults and rereading Gaiman doesn't appeal to me. Thanks!
