63F: Moving/making friends?

I am thinking of moving to Seattle from the East Coast to be closer to my aging parents. Have spent tons of time here, so am aware of the expense (am frugal, not expecting much floorspace) and weather (love the rain, actually). Biggest hesitation is: will I make friends/find a community? I'm bookish and quirky. Any first- or secondhand experiences to share? It seems this reddit thread skews younger but maybe you know someone older who had made the leap?
