Medieval 1100 AD - Economy

Does anyone have any advice for getting a handle on the economy (or generally just province management) in Medieval 1100 AD? Im coming from attilla and trying to get my desire to play Byzantium in a medieval setting satiated so I’m playing as Rome and struggling to keep my empire afloat and I just don’t know where I’m going wrong? Any tips would be appreciated.
