9 month old still contact napping…. Odd or normal?
My son is 9 months old and he still takes all his naps as contact. Either laying down beside me, or laying in my or my husband’s lap in the nursery chair. He also naps in grandmas arms when she watches him.
I don’t have a problem with the contact naps. I actually adore them because it feels like us time and we’re bonding, plus it’s the one time of day it forces me to relax and chill for an hour. (I can watch my show, listen to an audiobook, read, etc) otherwise when he’s awake I’m engaging him, cleaning while he plays, meal prepping him food, us food, and running errands. So his naps are the only time of day I get a moment to relax really, and it’s nice bonding for us too. I love how at peace he is snuggled up next to me. It was more challenging to do all the contact naps when he was younger and took 3-4 naps a day that were hours + long. But now it’s only an hour nap in the late morning and an 1-1.5 hour in the afternoon.
In the past if I attempt to set him in his crib during a nap he will wake instantly, and be upset having been woken. I also wake him from all his naps. Little guy is so cozy he’ll just keep sleeping away on me if I let him. He will sleep in his crib at night however. Some occasional mornings we get an early wake around 5am and the only way he’ll keep sleeping solidly is if we hold him for 15-30 mins until he’s sound asleep again and we can attempt a transfer, sometimes it sticks or some mornings we just have to hold him until his wake up time of 6:30/7am.
Is it unusual that my baby is 9 months old and still not napping in his crib??
I’m wondering if anyone else’s baby only contact naps also? And for how long did they? Did they just one day decide they were over it and did naps independently? I’ve kind of just wanted to go off his cues here, but I’m also wondering if I am gonna have a 2-3 year old who is still only willing to take a nap if I lay down with them lol
