Game freezes but animations still play

For the past few months on multiple different saves, the game freezes with the animation still playing (as in the plumbob spins, leaves move, etc) I’m lowkey at my wits end and I haven’t seen any help for this for Macs specifically since the guides I see only use programs that are available on windows, I’ve tried the smooth patch mod by lazy duchess (as well as manually setting the frame rate limit) the error trap, overwatch mod, regul save cleaner, resetting the town and nothing is working. I tried waiting it out for hours and nothing is changing. Anyone on Mac having this issue? It used to work completely fine before and I haven’t gotten any new cc so I’m not sure what changed
