Looking for recommendations

Want to start taking photos and videos of trips and family. In addition I am a birder and would love to take good looking photos of birds.

Looking for something beyond an iPhone but not breaking the bank.

Don’t wanna set a price point to hopefully get a wide range of recommendations from the community.

Budget: under $1000

Country: USA
Condition: New or used

Type of Camera: to new to know what watching videos later tonight to learn the dif.

Intended use: hybrid

If photography; what style: wildlife, personal photos, videos

If video what style: maybe a doc or long recording

What features do you absolutely need:
What features would be nice to have: maybe an amount of water proofing?

Portability: would prefer something I can put into my backpack and/or my suv

Cameras you already have: I have a small nikon that’s battery powered. Really cheap. The lens is scratched. I still use it but was hoping for thr next step up.
