If you had to pick one ideology/mindset from haikyuu what would it be?
Have always loved haikyuu but only recently finished the manga. (Ik im very late just recently had the motivation to read my first manga !!)After binging everything, I couldn’t stop thinking about it. Eventually I ended up asking myself the question in the title and am curious about what others answers to it are.
If you could only pick a single ideology from haikyuu what would it be? (Could be anything, the most relatable, the most inspiring, the one that captures haikyuu best, etc.)
Personally I ended up answering with Takeda-sensei’s “what will you become tomorrow” because I think it best encapsulates haikyuu as a whole. When he first said it after losing to aoba josai, I didn’t really pay much attention. I only really fully appreciated it when it was used in the epilogue chapters.
There are other ideologies that connect more deeply to different parts of me. Some days I relate with Asahi’s relationship with fear. Others with Tsukishima’s guardedness. Or with Kageyama’s growth from people-pleasing to self-acceptance. Or with Hirugami’s detachment. Or with the GOATs hinata and oikawa. But whenever I think of haikyuu in the future, this is the one I want to remember the most.
The quote not only tells us to stop seeing defeat as an end but also more literally asks us, the viewers: “Which character/person will you take inspiration from at this moment?” Some days we might draw strength from haikyuu characters or those from other media or even other people.
Ofc, the best example of this is Hinata. More specifically, one of the chapter titles during his brazil arc was “Becoming”. A really simple yet effective word to explain how we can become our best selves. Just like Hinata, once we combine others ideologies with our own experiences and uniqueness, only then can we build our very own identity.
We don’t become ourselves in isolation. Becoming happens through the cumulative learnings from others that we choose to carry forwards. Truly, we are a mosaic of everyone we ever loved.
