Advice on buying a 2005 CR-V

Question ❔

I recently test drove an '05 CR-V that I am considering buying.

It has 106k miles and they are asking $8,500 for it.

It being a midwest car its whole life there was some rust on the underside but no frame rot that I noticed. The suspension system definitely looked original as there was some mild rust on almost every component. The dealership had clearly just detailed the engine bay so it looked immaculate but that almost concerns me as if they are trying to hide something. I noticed the power steering pump and alternator looked original as well, slightly weathered with age.

I had not driven one before and one thing I noticed was that the steering seemed slightly stiff. There were a couple very mild noises coming from the car but the transmission shifted smoothly, the engine idled at around 1k rpms, had no problem getting up to speed and the brakes worked totally fine.

I have the carfax, two owner vehicle clean mileage and title. The only service records are oil changes. The car was in two minor accidents but no airbags deployed and no damage reported. I did notice a couple of dings in the body of the vehicle and the hood did not close 100% cleanly but not bad enough that it would be annoying or potentially dangerous.

The dealership has very good reviews and the salesman was very nice and not overbearing at all.

I know the 2nd gens are super reliable but I have made the mistake of buying a "bulletproof" car before without doing my due diligence and paid the price.

Any advice on whether or not to buy it would be super appreciated, thanks!
