Baptist Health Lexington- 0 personal care

My wife is pregnant with our first child and we’ve been going to Baptist Health Lexington.

Thus far we have had a terrible experience and I am shocked by the lack of personal care considering the risks and importance of maternal care.

I understand that hospitals are understaffed, overworked, under supported by executives and are often run as businesses to get as many patients through the door as possible every day, but I am still disgusted by the lack of care we’ve been shown.

My wife has had several concerning tests and each time all we get is a brief message in MyChart and “see you at your next appointment”.

No description, no details, no explanation of what the results mean and the risks and treatment procedures that we’ll need to discuss. No one even picks up the phone to explain and answer questions. You have to call and message, and beg to meet to get any answers and all they do is act like everything is routine and that you should know what all this means.

Again, I understand doctors and nurses and the whole system is stretched but to me it is unacceptable to give a call and check in to make sure patients are cared for after major results from tests are given and ample opportunity for questions is made. They act bothered every time you ask a question like they have something better to do.

We are young and healthy and have rarely gone to the doctor so maybe this is just how it is in America or Lexington and we’re naive to think it should be better.

Is this the typical Baptist Health experience for people or is there something we should do to advocate for ourselves to receive better care?

I promise we are not needy or ridiculous Karens that are looking for problems where people are just doing their jobs. My wife just came home in tears because she all she got after a major test is a few sentences in MyChart and when she. tried to call and get some answers she was disregarded, sidelined and ignored.

Is a frank conversation with our doctor needed or is there a process to make a complaint and actually get results? Or is it all futile and we should accept that this is just the way healthcare is?

Again…nurses and doctors care very much and work very hard and I’m sure plenty of folks have had incredible experiences. But if this level of care is possible, how can we as first time parents make sure we’re advocating for ourselves to get that kind of help? Any insight from folks who have gone through this or work for Baptist Health would be much appreciated.
