Almost kept my kid home from camp due to my task avoidance
It’s day 1 of my period. It’s Friday (right? Idk atp). I couldn’t sleep last night. Thinking about packing his camp bag and lunch (the fucking lunch is the worst part. HATE packing lunch), then getting ready and driving him there made me die a little inside. So this morning, I asked my kid if he wanted to stay home. It’s his first week there. He’s tired. He shrugged his shoulders and said “sure”
45 mins later after he’d told me all the stories he had about shipwrecks (yeah, he’s also ADHD), he said “I’m kinda bored. Maybe I want to go to camp”. I thought for 5 seconds then shot up out of my chair. Had to be there by 9. It was 8:32 and it’s about 15 mins away.
Lunch packed, bag packed, kid got dressed, sunscreen on, younger one dressed, my teeth brushed (win) and me dressed in NINE MINUTES. We were out the door 10 mins after he said he wanted to go
Pulled in at 8:58. Fuck yea.
That adrenaline rush of urgency and the focus that comes with it is legit
