Brain burning game fire somebody who likes theme and intuitive rules

I am looking for a game that is a heavy brain burner, plays up to 2.5hr. I really, really like when games have rules that are intuitive and are intuitive to learn.

For example, my favourite game so far is Twilight Imperium 4. Ok, it has two rule books etc but for me those are so intuitive and consistent it was just a joy to learn. Similar thing for Barrage.

I was looking at Trickerion and Voidfall. I know the latter is a bit of this sub favourite, but after watching some playthroughs I am concerned will it fit - to me it felt like there are plenty cards/mechanics that will tell you "pay that for something else" but when I was watching it didn't feel intuitive. Does it feel this way when you actually pay it? Maybe some other titles? I play mostly solo or with spouse (no coops).
