Introducing Myself Part 3: My Art Style, and Writing VS Art
Part 3 of my introduction post.
Part 2 here, where I mentioned how the Naruto boom era in 2007 influenced me to write my own fantasy world. Naruto's influence didn't stop there. Besides writing, Naruto also influenced my art style.
Back then, while writing my fantasy story, I would also draw so many Naruto character fan art as well as the character designs from my story. Hence, my early art style is based on Naruto's.
Sometimes I also tried to draw some parts of my story as a one-page manga in a drawing book. But the more I tried to draw while writing the story, the more I realized my inadequacies in drawing my story into a manga/comic.
Whenever I drew a story panel, my head would feel heavy, to the point of turning numb and frustrated. It was like I had those story plots ready in my head, but instead of waiting patiently in their line, they would scream in my head and keep barging in to cut the line. And drawing one scene in the manga panel took at least 2 hours, which wouldn't help calm my mind. Hence, I ended up numb.
Realizing that, I quit drawing my story into a full manga/comic myself. I decided to focus on my writing, since it's faster to put all those lined-up ideas in writing than drawing. So the heavy sensation in my head would be much more manageable. Since then, I've only used my drawing skills for character design/art.
