2016 sonata se
after reading a lot of posts here, it seems i’m not alone but i’m disappointed. i didn’t realized all the engine issues this car type has. i bought a 2016 sonata se in april ‘22. i was without a car for months and i realized i got screwed on this deal as i was desperate to get a car with no friends or family to talk to. i had no idea what i was doing. at the beginning of may this year, my engine light went on and it started shaking like crazy. i got it in to get checked and they said i had no oil (last oil change 3/16 with 1k miles put on since then) and 4 plugs/valves in the engine (can’t remember which) had to be replaced for $400. i went for another oil change two week ago (with around 600 miles put on it) and they said it was bone dry. they told me i need to replace the dorman engine cover, do a engine clean and some other stuff for around 1k. said i’ll need to check my oil every 500 miles to refill it and that this engine type is known to eat oil and have engine issues.
i still have $5500 left to pay until my loan is up in ‘28. my interest is crazy high (13%)bc my credit score was 600 at the time hence why i still owe a bit. it says the car is worth $3300 and i think it might just be time for a new car. has anyone else run into this? is it worth it just to fix or should i just take the L and get a new one? i dont want any judgement as i know i got screwed over by the car place. i was a woman doing all this on my own and feel the company just took advantage of this. i just feel lost right now and very upset that hyundai has such bad car issues. i shoulda researched more but hindsight is always right. my credit is at 745 now so i feel like i might be able to do better but dont really know if the negative equity will screw me.
