Hello people!

This is Luna, My little ball of fur and goofiness.

A little bit about her:
Age - 7.5 months
Weight - 27kg (she’s a show line, hence the heavier bones and higher weight but she’s totally fit)
Activity - between one & two km walk daily, climbing 2 flights of stairs 5-6 times a day, a few fetch games within house.

Like any other — full of energy, randomness, steals socks and scrunchie to an extent that she could’ve had a shop of her own and loves walks and car rides. All over a GREAT COMPANION.

**The problem - She’s become a fussy eater.**

Just like any other golden retriever, she’s always had a high food drive and almost immediately runs towards food. Ever since she came home, she used to follow me, specially into the kitchen even if I wasn’t preparing her meal. She would stand not more than a foot farther, and follow me until I kept her bowl.

She used to be jumpy, and run towards the ball, even before settings went to train her to sit and wait for me to keep the ball down before she goes and eat it.

I primarily give her kibble for her morning and evening meals along with fruits/curd/ boiled veggies in broth, etc in the afternoon as a snack/ mini meals.

About a 2-ish weeks ago, she’s starting getting quite fussy with her food. She still has a very high drive for treats, our own human food, anything else, but just not her own food.

It started off with her, leaving a few pieces in the bowl, which slowly went up to her eating half meals, and then not eating food at all even after going on a good long morning walk.

I tried everything — soaking in warm water, giving food to her at different time, meal topper, curd but is just been erratic. She’ll sometimes just drink the broth or eat the curd and leave the entire cable aside or maybe eat a few pieces. Sometimes even with curd or chicken broth, she will not touch it at all. I even tried to change her food and see if that results into something else, but not been super positive.

I do live in India (delhi to be precise) and it’s been quite hot. And from what I know, and what the vet also told me is that the heat affects their diet a lot and given that cable is naturally heat producing and super dry it is not uncommon. But there have been days where she’s gone the entire day by eating only 1/4 of her daily intake need.

And interestingly enough, if me and my family are reading anything she would just quickly come and stand near us looking at our food and if someone gives her a bite, she will quickly take it without even sniffing and continuous, staring into our soul until we give her more.

The situation improved a little about last week and she has been eating on and off, at different times of days. But again today, she only ate 50% of her meals, and just a bowl of curd across the day.

From what I could find, via information online, trainers, friends is to be strict with her meal timings and only giving a 15 to 20 minute window for eating and taking the bowl away. This accompanied by reducing her treats entirely for a few days and only giving it as a reward if she finishes her bowl.

Has anyone else faced this? Did it go away on its own or did you try something which actually worked?

I got a Picky eater. Help!
