What are the odds my favorite author removed over half their works due to the Claude skin?

I downloaded a fic of theirs before a flight just before the skin was announced and all of their fics were still there. When I returned from my trip about five days later, my friend and I were talking about how a few fics of theirs were caught with the skin and how they should’ve known better because they used common ai language like “it’s no x, it’s y.” One of the indicators they mentioned was new to me, and I immediately thought of my favorite author because I had noticed on their last work they said the same phrase that my friend said was ai at least once a chapter.

My friend insisted that they were probably using ai to write and told me to check with the skin, but when I went into ao3, about two thirds of their works were marked as hidden (not deleted I don’t think?). My friend seems to think that the author removed them because they were caught with the skin and are either going to delete them or edit them and then unhide them from the collection. The remaining works by this author do not trigger the Claude skin and are a mix of how long ago they were published, length, and popularity.

I’m truly in denial about all of this because this is my favorite author who I’ve built a relationship with. This author basically dedicated their fic to me and unabandoned another due to my comments, and their writing in turn inspired me to unabandon my own work, so I’ll be devastated if this whole time it wasn’t even their writing.

So, just how likely is it that this was written my ai?
