Wells Fargo Premier Advisors

Career Progression

Looking for advice for anyone who has worked at WF Advisors.

I've been an advisor for about a year and a half working at a small Wealth Management firm. I work under a senior advisor who is planning to retire in ~5 years and multiple times has said his intent is for me to take over his book $80M when he retires. However, my pay is only a 20% cut of our revenue (mostly commission based) and I have no equity in our book, "yet".

We get along well, the majority clients are fairly straightforward and good to work with, and I have some flexibility to take time off - but I can't get over the idea that he could sell his book and retire at the drop of the hat. Since he doesn't want to sign a partnership agreement "until retirement is closer" I am losing sleep that all of my hard work might be for nothing. Additionally, he is asking me to bring in more clients to the book but with the expectation that I'm in office 55-60 hours a week I'm not loving the idea of spending my little personal time prospecting.

I was approached by WF and can't spot any major red flags in their program for new advisors where I would actually have benefits a salary for the first couple years compared to being 1099. It seems like they have great training and resources to continue to grow and understand the business at a level that my BD cant compete with, plus warm leads getting sent over from the bankers.

Am I missing something major here? Seems like the opportunity to build my own book with much better resources/ leads and a stable income as I get going would be stupid to pass up...
