* Russian unmanned systems units may be preparing for a potential military confrontation with NATO countries. This opinion was expressed in an article for Forbes by Samuel Bendett, an expert on unmanned technologies and an advisor to the think tanks CNA and CNAS.
* According to the expert, Russian leadership is considering building up its military potential in the western direction amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. He believes that after several years of hostilities, Moscow is seeking to strengthen its position.
* Bendett also draws a historical parallel with the withdrawal of Soviet troops from Afghanistan in 1989, noting that the consequences of that conflict had an impact on the domestic political situation in the USSR.
* According to the expert, Russia is placing particular emphasis on developing unmanned systems and military infrastructure near its western borders. He claims that new military facilities have been established in recent months, which, in his opinion, are capable of supporting a significant contingent of personnel.
* Bendett considers one possible scenario to be the rapid conduct of operations against the Baltic states in the absence of timely reinforcements from NATO allies.
