Review: Whale watching and wildlife Quest in Juneau

Nieuw Amsterdam

We got this excursion confused with previous much smaller whale watching excursion on our last Alaskan cruise that we booked independently.

This excursion we booked thru HAL. It was much larger group. They loaded us on to 3 motor coaches and bused us about 30 minutes to a harbor in Auke Bay. There were probably 75+ people on the excursion.

The vessel was a double decker with benched seating (cushioned) on both levels. There was outdoor viewing on the upper deck.

It took awhile but we finally got to a group of humpbacks. They were 300-400 yards away. We got some decent photos and videos. We later saw a couple more but fairly far away. They took us to a bouy with 6 sea lions napping on it. They also pointed out eagles. The crew was good.

I prefer the smaller group whale tours but this one wasn’t too bad.
