Reason on why Reddit may restrict you!

PSA: Please check if people can dm you!

Tldr: Check if people can actually dm you. Reddit could have changed it even if you were able to receive dms before.

So short story:

I wanted to rejoin the gc, as I left when I went on a hiatus. I asked through modmail, if they could put me into one. Turns out that it wasn't possible.

After a quick search in my settings, I found the setting shown in the image. The only problem was: I could not change it, not even by doing it in the browser.

Reddit may enforce this. I learned of a few conditions with which they use to determine it.

1. Your age: Even if you are not a minor, Reddit uses your post history, comments and subreddits you frequent to determine your age and restrict you based on it.

2. Your country: In some countries like the UK there are certain bans and age restrictions, which may restrict you based on point 1. (I think they restrict you even if your country doesn't have these bans.)

3. Your karma: If they think your karma is to low they restrict you. The amount of Karma they require is unknown.

4. Your account age: If your account old enough they may put this restriction on you. The minimum age of your account is unknown.

5. Your CQS: This is your comment quality. If reddit thinks that they are too low, they may entorce this restriction. (Use r/WhatIsMyCQS to learn more about it.

6. Your account being NSFW: Yes, it sounds stupid but Reddit may restrict you just cause your account is NSFW. (This applies to \*\*everyone\*\* here.)

7. Just cause they can: Reddit may restrict for reasons no one knows.

\*\*How to fix it:\*\*

If this setting is locked to "nobody", there are a few things you can do to unlock it. I recommed doing these things just to lower the chances of them doing it.

1. Try to change it in the browser version of Reddit.

2. Link some other platform with this account. IOS, for example, also estimates your age based on the data they aquire from you. In the IOS settings you can allow IOS to share your age estimation with Reddit.

3. Check your CQS. You can improve it by commenting and them being upvoted.

4. Verify your age: Usually only possible in countries with bans, but would recommed checking in your settings if there is an option to do it.

5. Wait: It sounds stupid but Reddit may release the restrictions after some time. (How long you need to wait is unknown.)

6. Contact the modmail of different Subreddits under Reddits exclusive management: That is what maybe fixed it for me. I used the modmail of r/RedditSecurity .I messaged them asking if my account is flagged or restricted in some kind of way. Though they never texted me back, the restriction was lifted overnight. I'm not sure if it was a coincident or not.

That is it. I know its a long read but I highly recommened checking your settings. They may just restrict you at any time, even if you weren't.

On a side note, I also recommend you go to r/shadowban to check if you are shadowbanned. If you are others can't see your profile nor do they get notified if you comment under their post.

P.S As I attempted to post this, I wasn't allowed to at first and then had to verify my age using my ID before I was allowed on NSFW subs.... I can't...
