SYRUPS ARE BACK
proclaims the sign 
in the window of the International House of Pancakes
attached to the budget motel 

It’s hard to imagine
that they’d left,
syrup(s) being an integral part of the pancake eating experience 
And where would they have gone, anyway

Still, I know better 
than to assume
that what was always will be.  A truth
with applications beyond breakfast food 

For today though 
at the International House of Pancakes 
attached to our budget motel, I’m eager to believe 
SYRUPS ARE BACK
