Newbie Noob Noob Mesh/GPS Question

Ok, so like many others I'm looking into getting into Meshtastic. I'm a radio tinkerer (not a Ham, sad or otherwise) but I have been doing a lot of experimenting with local GMRS communication. The most practical use I would have personally for a Meshtastic device ... to start with would be as a GPS 'beacon'. So before I jump feet first into new geekery, is there an existing, physical device within the Meshastic universe that is capable of transmitting it's own GPS location via APRS protocols over the standard UHF GMRS frequency range? And yes it is legal to send digital bursts of information like GPS location/callsign or even short messages digitally via GMRS, just no digital voice encoding. And if such a device already exists, what would be the maximum TX wattage possible (<10w I assume)? My ultimate goal to have a tracking device/system in place for when my wife and I go camping/canoeing way off the grid. She's not super radio friendly, so I'm sure she'd rather have a simple, small thing to clip onto her pack than carry a large, APRS capable HT radio like I carry in the field (Radtel RT-880G). But I would want it to be APRS compatible for convenience.

Thanks for any input!
