When Jon Arryn died, King Robert rode to Winterfell and named father, Hand of the King. He took him south to serve beside him, and for a time all seemed well. But the king is dead now, and his son Joffrey sits the Iron Throne.

Father is accused of treason and kept prisoner in the Red Keep. Sansa says he confessed, but I do not believe it. I will not.

Lord Tywin marches from the West. The Lannister dogs spill the blood of the smallfolk of the riverlands. Father's life is held in the hands of the boy-king and his mother. They call for me to ride south and bend the knee.

I am riding south, but not to bend the knee. The banners of the North ride with me, to free our father, and to bring him home.

You have a home now, far beyond the seas. You are not bound to us in this, nor do I expect you to come. But you have the right to know.
