Shared laundry room w/ hard water. Any tips?

Hello all, my apartment building in coastal SoCal has very hard water and shared laundry room. I wipe down the machines when they are visibly dirty but don’t have the funds to run extra washing cycles ($4 a load.) my current setup is 1 tide pod (Costco sized - donated to me from a friend) and a hefty scoop of biz. My laundry seems ok so far (maybe some slight odor rebloom if left in the closet a long time) and i do about one load a week. Hardly anything more than shirts, a towel, and pajama pants. Sheets every other week.

Any tips here that would optimize without costing too much? I estimate I’ll run out of my current laundry detergent in maybe 6 months so I can prepare to buy something better.

My apartment is too small and old for a personal washer I think but I’m open to suggestions if someone has a small washer they really think is worth it.
