Would your boyfriend/husband expect you to deal with major car repair issues on your own?

My best friend called me yesterday somewhat distraught. Her newish car needs some fairly expensive repairs.

She was overwhelmed and frazzled when the mechanic called her to rattle off everything that was wrong. She knows nothing about cars. Neither do I so I was no help.

I asked if she could just have the mechanic call her boyfriend and explain to him what was going on. Her boyfriend is a blue collar guy.

My friend responded by saying that she spoke with her boyfriend about it. Boyfriend said he would tell her what to say to the mechanic.

I was immediately taken aback by this. I’m married so maybe it’s a little bit different but there’s no way my husband would ever expect me to go back-and-forth with a mechanic about a major car repair.

For reference, my friend and her boyfriend have been together 3 years. Currently not living together but will be moving in together in the fall.

Am I just a pampered princess or is it fair to be disappointed that her boyfriend wouldn’t step up to help?
