My theory about Ian and Nikki.
Now someone else probably already said this but I really want to hear some opinions about it. Ian acts almost exactly like an old friend of mine and that assumption is where my theory comes from.
So my theory comes from the ride Bear gives Nikki before he makes the wish. Ian tells Sarah that him and Nikki had been hooking up on and off for two years. That it was just casual fun. No romance or commitment. Now seeing as this is all from Ian’s POV I think Nikki was actually really into Ian. She wanted more from him and was upset with the lack of emotion he gave her. Her comments to bear, “you’re the only person I can talk to like this. You’re not just a closed off wall (sorry for paraphrasing)”. I think she’s referring to Ian. How for years she tried and failed to feel the love she wanted from him. She also said how she just wasn’t feeling love and how she wanted to feel love. How her book was a love story but not a romance. I think she just wanted to feel genuine love. Hoping Bear would provide that unconditional familial love after the unhealthy relationship she had with Ian. It’s quite possible she would have even dated Bear just for a chance at actual love instead of risking losing him as a friend by turning him down.
Now my main motivation for this theory is Ian. The way he belittles his relationship with Nikki to not mean anything yet still thinks she would date Bear to make him jealous. My friend did this with women constantly. He just wanted no strings attached fooling around but the women always wanted more. He would be real sweet and nice to them until he got bored. Frankly he didn’t really respect women as individuals. Or relationships and that’s how I think Ian sees romance too. He seemed genuinely happy for Bear when he came in with Nikki. I think he was supportive of Bear pursuing Nikki because to him his relationship with Nikki didn’t really mean anything. The way he suggested to tease and be mean to her was exactly how my friend was to women and I’m sure that’s how Ian saw success with women hence why he suggested it. Even when Bear confronted Ian about him hooking up with Nikki he got super defensive and acted like Bear was overreacting because he doesn’t value relationships the way most do. My friend would be the exact same way when I or another friend found out he was fooling around with a girl we were trying to date.
Sorry for the mountain of text but I keep seeing people claim Ian was sabotaging Bear or wanted Nikki and just wanted to hear responses to my theory.
