My general thoughts about this summer event story and why it's just bad.

NSFWGeneral Discussion

This controversary and distaste of this summer event all consist of valid points and I'd like to sum up my overall thoughts on what I think and saw from others:

  • It doesn't feel like a summer event
  • Annoying overused jokes that just take up time (Rapi and Pinguin #1)
  • Rapi is the commanders mouthpiece and permanently attached to his side, taking up a considerable amount of screentime.
  • The commander feels like an accessory rather then someone whose considered a participant of the event and or actively written as part of the event story; like some baggage that's just there and added later on.

It's very notable when a writer actively writes the commander as a part of a story, and when one doesn't. In this case, the commanders existence is forgotten (like in Unbreakable Sphere), and all his past relationships (like with Mori) are disregarded to build relationships between Nikkes that wouldn't otherwise work if you factored him in.

The commander watches everything unfold around him while he hides behind crates and bushes, and this is completely unlike the busybody commander we know who bothered Prika to hell and back about an issue he knew nothing about. I suspect (in my opinion) this writer is just shipping characters together, and to do that, the commander needs to be narratively removed from the picture, even if that breaks previously established relationships and bonds. A user left a comment that hit home for me::

The commander has previously established relations and bonds with both parties, and not minor ones either. When Marciana was standing guard multiple nights in a row without a wink of sleep, that was a perfect and completely in-character moment for the commander to approach her for a one-on-one, and something the busybody commander would 100% do, especially knowing she's not sleeping. In his position, with his relationship to both parties, as Marciana's co-teacher and Naga/Tia's teacher, he is in the perfect position to talk with this about her. But for this story to work, as I said, the commander needs to be narratively written out, otherwise these character interactions are hard to do. That is what they did with him.

He does nothing because the writer wanted Cinderella to step in and be that person. In regards to Naga and Tia... the commander hasn't uttered a word to them, and outside of the introduction, they have not said anything to him either. As I said, previously established relationships are ignored to tell a story that otherwise wouldn't work if you factored in past relationships.

  • Siren still doesn't have advises and a bond story, and what they teased and what they actually gave is nothing but crumbs. Why couldn't they revise and update her advises and bons story? Or cut some the Penguins and Rapi's screentime to give her some cute scenes where she tries to talk and approach the commander, but fails miserably. Anything?
  • Cinderella has an amazing bond story (that was 100% written by another person), but could we not have skipped the entire Penguin#1 nonsense and just traded that for a good scene where we just blatantly flirt between each other, or she tries to show off to me? Just one good scene like that? No? She never even asked what the commander thought of her black bikini or tried to show off with it. She just changed into it, no reaction whatsoever (besides from Marciana), and that was it. I was sure she would at least ask you if you liked it to see your reaction. No? Ok.

I think this about covers how I feel about this event. It suffers from the same things as Unbreakable Sphere and Boom the Ghost, and while it isn't as horrendous as those events were, most of the same problems in the event story writing are there. At this point, I have written so many surveys asking for them to treat a summer event like a SUMMER EVENT, that I am fatigued from it. Why can't they treat summer events like they do with Bunny events?
