What is HTTPS (IT Posts)

I’ve seen a comment that says what is Https in a way saying many people don’t even know what concepts in IT are Whalen applying or working in tech jobs. Rather than have my comment deleted by a stupid bot I’ll just post my definition here.

HTTPS

HTTPS is an acronym for Hypertext transfer protocol secure. It is similar to the version without secure is the better online security version. HTTP is part of the Apication layer in reference to the OSI model. HTTPS combines HTTP requests and responses with SSL and TLS technology. Sites using SSL/TLS must option the certificate. After typing or adding in HTTPS the browser attempts to verify request the certificate.

After if all is verified and complete, both browser and web server switch to using the same session key to exchange messages safely. HTTPS encrypts your data for better online security. This includes when typing in information that is now better encrypted such as:

Passwords
Credit card numbers
Messages
Search terms
Personal information

HTTPS encrypts that data and now adds a layer of security. It does not hide or protect everything such as ISP if someone e is trying to find info. But it does add a layer of security to information such as those and if someone seees this info some it is likely scrambled and more protected from potential hackers making HTTPS a good first layer of cybersecurity.
