Quick reality check: Do you check OSHA history when prequalifying contractors?
For anyone involved in contractor safety or vendor prequalification:
Do you look at a contractor’s OSHA history before approving them?
I know companies often review EMR, TRIR, DART, insurance, safety programs, training records, and references. But I’m curious whether OSHA inspection/citation history gets used in practice.
If you do check it...
- Who handles it?
- Does it affect approval?
- Do serious/repeat/willful citations matter?
- Do you look company-wide or only at a local branch/site?
If you don’t check it, is that because it’s not useful, too time-consuming, too messy, or just not part of the process? Thanks for the feedback!
