The cringiest part of phone witnessing

JW / Ex-JW Tales

A cringy JW memory:

During the dumpster fire that was the phone witnessing era, everyone in my hall was directed to always include JW.org in their voicemails in the hopes the website would be visited. It used to drive me insane that people would spell it out J-W-Dot-O-R-G, but what’s worse were those (English often being their second language) who would quickly spell out J-W-O-R-G without stopping or including the dot.

It sounded like JW Orgy.
And it was left on hundreds of voicemails.

There were a few culprits but one older lady who was particularly “out there” used to say it like this every single time…without fail…Everyone knew what it sounded like but no one would say anything. Finally I couldn’t take it anymore and I asked her to include the dot. I still remember how difficult it was for me to explain that what she’s saying sounds like something else entirely that’s inappropriate and undermines her message. Why? Because no one in the zoom group backed me up! I know they all heard it and it bothered them, including members of my own family and friends who also complained with me privately, but everyone in the meeting wanted to play dumb and blink at me in silence.

Since I wasn’t going to say the word Orgy in the service group and risk the elder police turning the whole thing around on me, I finally gave up on beating around the bush and dropped the subject entirely. I’m so glad all of that madness is now years behind me.
