How do I inform my mother about my engagement

Support

Hi everyone. New to the group. Desperate for advice.

My partner and I just bought rings and are planning to do a ring exchange engagement before the end of the month. I’m OVER THE MOON!

My mother is in my life at arms length and I don’t currently have the option to simply not tell her or go no contact for various reasons so please keep that in mind.

I’m going to eventually have to tell her and I’d like to be in control of when and how rather than her hearing from someone else. She is a very conservative Christian from the south. It took 10yrs of multiple coming outs for her to finally admit I’m gay. She knows about my relationship but she doesn’t support it. She did ask me to tell her rather than do what a family friend did and keep it hidden and I can empathize with that. I don’t want to hide it either. I want to give her the chance to get her act together and participate in the wedding planning (if she can behave). Or she can choose not to. I don’t want her to be able to say she didn’t have a chance and make me a villain.

Part of me is tempted to just send a picture of my hand with the ring on it and a text saying something like “I’m engaged! Choose to celebrate or not!” And turn my phone off. But idk if that’s too aggressive…

Idk just looking for advice. What did you do? What would lesbian Jesus do?
