Removal of wall

Good afternoon everyone!

We’re going through enquiries at the moment and have had a query about the removal of an internal wall. In all honesty, we didn’t even know this had happened. We didn’t pick it up, nor did our surveyor when we bought the place.

Our neighbours house is the same design and since they’ve been renovating it, I asked them about a wall. They took one out that would make their downstairs look like ours. It was non load bearing wall. We obviously have no evidence ours isn’t and I’m not sure our solicitor is willing to pass on the whole “they don’t know but the neighbours wasn’t”.

This must’ve happened over 20 years ago.

What can we do? I don’t really fancy paying for a structural engineer to come in and drill holes to confirm what we 99% know to be true?
