Quick reality check... For serious workplace injury cases, do prior similar OSHA violations matter?

Question for attorneys who handle serious workplace injury, construction accident, industrial injury, wrongful death (at work), etc...

Do prior OSHA violations ever matter in early case evaluation?

I’m not asking about routine workers’ comp. I’m more curious about civil or liability cases where prior notice, similar hazards, contractor responsibility, or recurring safety issues might matter.

For example, do you ever look for prior similar citations, repeat or willful violations, prior incidents at the same location, patterns across related locations or entities, or complaint/fatality-related inspections?

If you use this type of information, does it help with intake, investigation strategy, subpoenas or discovery, expert prep, or settlement leverage?

Or is OSHA history usually too incomplete, too context-dependent, or too hard to connect to the specific incident to be useful?
