British autistic here - how do different cultures affect your autistic socialising ?
Posting because I'm super curious!
I'm British and my country's social culture has always been a huge issue for me - we are very "polite" in ways where it is rude to say what you think and you are expected to dance around the point and never say what you mean, plus expected to just blatantly lie to people constantly in order to keep up your "polite" facade - be "nice" to people's faces, talk shit behind their back.
I have struggled with this my whole life and find it incredible distressing. You never truly know whether someone likes you or not here, and you never truly know whether you have done something wrong or right, because no one will ever tell you the truth.
I have found other - namely European - cultures to be quite refreshing in this way. They tend to be blunter and say what they think. So I was wondering, what it would be like to grow up autistic in a culture like this! I was wondering if you thought it made your social life slightly easier in any way. Let me know all of your thoughts in the comments because I'm really interested !!! Or even if you don't come from a culture like this, let me know what yours is like and how you feel it has affected your autistic life !
What actually sparked this thought was Love Island UK currently has a Polish contestant who is rather blunt in saying what she thinks and all the other (British) contestants pile onto her for it and don't get along with her and it makes my heart ache because she's so me.
