Was the mannequin torso gag ever explained?

Dead Rising 1

It’s been an open secret that the Mannequin Torso does far more damage than most melee weapons in the Dead Rising 1. I’ve been wondering if anyone with behind the scenes knowledge or perhaps KGI himself said why they did this, if there’s some sort of joke in it. It’s not like it’s a particularly difficult secret to uncover, most first-time players are going to find the mannequins as they come out the elevator, throw them at the zombies and pick up all the pieces to be used in the rooms ahead. They’d undoubtedly notice that the torso kills each zombie in one hit and gravitate to it, eventually finding out just how much damage it does to bosses. Why did they program this?
