Who are people trying to insult when they comment “Oxford study”
I promise I don’t even have an angle with this, I am just sincerely confused and curious. I’m a white girl and have no dog in this fight, I just actually don’t get it.
like, to my understanding, the “oxford study” is just some study that showed that Asian women and white men statistically marry each other a lot.
is this supposed to be insulting Asian women somehow, like implying that they’re gold diggers or something? is it supposed to insult the white men, claiming they’re like akin to desperate passport bros I guess? Is it supposed to be insulting Asian men or white women because their counterparts don’t choose them?????
people comment it like it’s an insult but I don’t actually understand what they’re getting at lol.
I do indeed know a few white/Asian (especially East Asian, since that seems to be the group that people are usually referring to) couples, and yeah it’s much more common for the woman to be Asian and the man to be white, & while there are definitely some messed up factors at play as to why this happens so frequently, I don’t get why it’s supposed to be so damning for the specific individuals involved.
from what I’ve seen, it seems to mostly come from the fact that in the US at least, whites/asians tend to be seen as somewhat equal when it comes to economics/education/etc; on a societal scale, other minorities seem to have been hit a lot harder by racism, especially systemically. so yeah, the two groups end up mingling a lot. & anecdotally, the reason it’s a lot more common for Asian women to end up with white men than the other way around is that a lot of Asian women perceive the Asian men to be more often tied to like more traditional Asian families that usually are super demanding of the women in a way that a white man marrying an Asian woman wouldn’t be nearly as burdened by.
like yeah obviously it’s a common pairing, I don’t get how it’s meant to be offensive lol
