Avoiding Counterfeits

Hello, I am very new to the hobby and I recently purchased my first knife (Benchmade 535-3). I purchased it on amazon and I chose the official Benchmade store as the seller. I have since learned that it is common in the hobby for people to make and sell counterfeits. Knowing this, I would have chosen to purchase directly from the Benchmade website or possibly BladeHQ. I doubt that my knife I ordered is a counterfeit due to selecting the official Benchmade store as the seller on amazon, but I am still curious to know how to tell if a knife is a counterfeit. Thanks!
