I've been researching the future of cosmetology education and came across an interesting question.

Many beauty schools seem to have an aging instructor workforce, while relatively few younger licensed professionals choose teaching as a long-term career. At the same time, the industry is rapidly changing with AI, digital learning tools, competency-based education, evolving salon business models, and new workforce expectations.

Some questions I'm curious about:

* Why aren't more young licensed cosmetologists becoming instructors?
* Is compensation the biggest barrier, or are there other factors?
* Do current licensing and regulatory requirements encourage or discourage the next generation of educators?
* Can AI and technology reduce administrative work so instructors spend more time mentoring students?
* Should beauty schools focus more on safety, sanitation, ethics, and preparing graduates for successful salon careers rather than simply completing required hours?
* What changes would actually strengthen beauty education over the next 10–20 years without compromising public safety?

I'm interested in hearing perspectives from:

* Current instructors
* Salon owners
* Licensed cosmetologists
* Students
* State board members
* Regulators
* Anyone working in career and technical education

What do you think is the single biggest issue facing beauty education today, and what evidence or experience has shaped your opinion?
