Has anyone regretted dropping their sorority?
I’m really struggling with whether I should drop my sorority, and I’d love to hear from people who have been in a similar situation.
I transferred to my university, so I didn’t have the chance to meet people through dorm life or freshman year like a lot of the other members did. I feel like that may have put me at a disadvantage from the start, but I honestly don’t know.
I’ve been in my sorority for a year and will be a junior this fall. I feel like no matter how hard I try, I just can’t seem to find where I fit in. I’ve only made one genuine connection, and that’s with my little.
I’ve applied for countless leadership positions and have always been told someone else was more qualified. I sign up for every volunteer opportunity, but I rarely get selected. I don’t even get picked to help paint banners, decorate, set up, or clean up events. It feels like no matter how much I show up or volunteer, I’m always overlooked.
Socially, it’s been just as hard. I constantly try to put myself out there and ask people to hang out, but I usually get turned down. I go to a huge party school, and while I don’t party a ton, a big reason is that I don’t have anyone to go with. I’ve even been left out of group outings and told they didn’t want me in pictures because I’m “not photogenic” and I’d “ruin the vibe.” That really hurt, and it’s made me feel like I don’t belong
At this point, I’m exhausted and honestly stressed about going back in the fall. I keep wondering if I should just drop, but I’m scared I’ll regret it later and miss out on my last two years, alumni connections, or opportunities that could still come.
For those of you who transferred into a sorority or dropped one, I’d love to hear your experience. Did things ever get better? Do you regret leaving, or was it the right decision? Any advice would really mean a lot because I feel completely stuck.
